Chocolate Lowers Cholesterol

The news just keeps getting better for chocolate lovers with a recent review of 10 previous studies of chocolate consumption concluding that the cocoa in dark chocolate is linked to significant reductions in total and LDL (bad) cholesterol levels.

Published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition the new analysis shows the cholesterol benefits were observed despite the fat content that accompanies healthy flavanols in dark chocolate.

The flavanols are thought to inhibit cholesterol absorption as well as the body’s receptors for LDL cholesterol.
